About the Conference

The annual SOE Conference endeavours to revitalise on the societal compact around SOEs and their future in South Africa. It creates a multistakeholder platform where SOEs, policymakers, civil society, academia, youth and business can convene to deliberate on SOE reform and rejuvenation. Building on previous conferences held since 2021, the 2023 SOE Conference aims to systematically unpack possible opportunities and risks for South African SOEs.

Objectives of the Conference

  • Disseminate information and research on up-to-date best practises that increase governance effectiveness and financial sustainability in SOEs.
  • Foster multistakeholder dialogue and consensus on measures that foster transparency, accountability and organisational resilience in SOEs.
  • Explore opportunities and risks facing SOEs in the next decade.
  • Build a network of stakeholders and stockholders interested in SOE reform.
  • Empower a network of civil society, citizens, business and other interest groupings to hold the government accountable as the shareholder of SOEs
