South Africa, like many countries in the world, has experienced an increase in fire disasters due to a combination of factors including a growing population, mining operations, informal settlements and the occupation of unsafe buildings. The recent fire in Marshalltown, Johannesburg, which claimed over 70 lives, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety and underscores the need for fire safety strategies to avert similar catastrophes. Addressing fire safety issues is crucial for safeguarding lives, properties and the environment and will require a multi-stakeholder approach involving government departments, community leaders and NGOs.
In response to in the increasing frequency of fire disasters in South Africa, the Conference seeks to gather fire engineers, regulatory bodies, municipal leaders, and fire and emergency services leaders to discuss the latest advancements, innovations and best practices in fire system design and engineering.
