The State-Owned Enterprises Conference will take place between the 17th and 18th November 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa
The Conference targets key decision-makers, thought leaders, and industry experts to convene to find solutions in key subject matters pertaining to State-Owned Enterprises in Africa. The conference aims to provide a platform for critical discussions and strategic knowledge sharing towards long-term economic growth and sustainability of SOEs. Beyond this, other key discussion topics will include situating SOEs in the trade context such as exploring opportunities in African Continental Free Trade, the Constitutionality of SOEs in facilitating the realization of socio-economic rights, the safeguarding of public resources for the next generation and interrogating structural changes in SOEs.
The Conference intends to facilitate a convening that would shifting mindsets from a blame-and-shame narrative towards collective accountability. With ‘optimization’, ‘success’ and ‘sustainability’ in mind; ‘optimization’ referring to the utilization of efficient processes and practices for SOEs to perform while ‘success’ referring SOEs in good standing from a corporate governance point of view, and ‘sustainability’ referring to the longevity of SOEs informed by principles of ethical leadership, underpinned by the King IV Governance Code and other best practices.
