About the Conference

The 3rd Annual Electricity Wheeling Conference builds on knowledge shared in earlier conferences, while also addressing new developments and challenges in the sector. Unstable electricity supply, technology advancements, a maturing renewable energy sector and global climate targets have increased the demand for electricity wheeling. Market shifts shaped by policies like the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPP), Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (RMIPPP) and the amendment to Schedule 2 of South Africa’s Electricity Regulation Act have given rise to the privatisation of power and Independent Power Producers (IPP). While government has eased the licensing requirements and regulations, several issues require consideration in South Africa’s existing electricity wheeling framework.

The Conference brings together stakeholders from the energy sector to harness the potential of the energy sector. The event will address challenges in the electricity wheeling framework and overall energy sector in South Africa. It also seeks to promote energy diversification and boose energy security
