Procurement Risks have a significant impact on a construction project’s performance in terms of cost, time and quality. As the size and complexity of the projects have increased, an ability to manage procurement risks throughout the construction process has become a central element preventing unwanted penalties. How procurement risks are shared between the project actors is to a large extent governed by the procurement option and the content of the related contract documents. Jan van Rensburg is a professional engineer (civil & structural) currently employed as Director: Acquisition and
Contract Management by the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW), Western Cape Government (WCG). His career has included inter alia database and software development, property development, civil engineering consulting, international contracting. He moved from Gauteng to the Western Cape in 2002 and joined the WCG in 2012. He was responsible for development and authoring of the first framework contracts implemented at provincial level in the country and has continued to expand the portfolio of contract templates to cater for a wide variety of
applications and needs. He is frequently engaged in public speaking.
